Coming from someone who does not love coffee– I love this shake for breakfast on-the-go or as a AM pre-workout! I generally just opt for warm lemon or ginger water in the morning to wake up my system but coffee, when prepped the right way (read: without fake flavors or added sugars) does have it’s benefits. And drinking coffee before a workout can add a fat burning boost as well as provide extra energy. This shake is the perfect pick-me-up or pre-workout snack.
1 c. Coffee
1 c. milk (I use almond milk)
1-2 handfuls of ice
1 ripe banana
2 heaped spoonfuls of vanilla protein powder. (I use Tropeaka, check it out to see why!)
2 spoonfuls of chia seeds
1 dash of cinnamon
Blend until smooth and well mixed. Enjoy!
*Optional: Maca powder (great for increasing stamina/endurance), ground flax seed (healthy fats, protein, and fiber–though I find these can give the shake a gritty texture), honey and/or vanilla (for extra sweetness)
Of course like all smoothies and shakes you can play around with the ratio of the ingredients until the taste suits you.
